Tire rotation
Recommended interval7,500 mi
What it is and why it matters
Front and rear tires wear at different rates — the drive and steer wheels do the most work. Rotating them moves each tire to a new position so the tread wears evenly, which extends tire life and keeps grip and handling balanced.
DIY vs. shop
Do it yourself
Effectively free with a jack, stands, and a torque wrench; about 30 min.
At a shop
$20–50, and frequently free when you bought the tires there.
Costs are rough US ballparks and vary by vehicle, parts, and region.
Good to know
7,500 mi is the common interval — an easy rule of thumb is to rotate at every other oil change so the two habits ride together.
