Free VIN decoder

Paste a 17-character VIN to look up the year, make, model, trim, and engine — straight from the official NHTSA database, no sign-up.

17 characters. Try the sample above (a 2003 Honda Accord).

What is a VIN, and where do I find it?

A Vehicle Identification Number is the car’s unique 17-character fingerprint. Every VIN encodes the manufacturer, the year, the plant, and the engine — which is how a decoder can turn those 17 characters into a full vehicle description.

On the car

Look at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side, or on the sticker inside the driver’s door jamb.

On paperwork

It’s printed on your title, registration, and insurance card — usually labeled “VIN.”

Decoding a VIN tells you what the car is. MyGlovebox records what happens to it next — every service, with the receipts.
